Junction Management for Connected and Automated Vehicles: Intersection or Roundabout?

چکیده
The concept of signal-free management at road junctions is tailored for Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs), in which the conventional signal control replaced by various right-of-way assignment policies. First-Come-First-Served (FCFS) most commonly used policy. In proposed strategies, although traffic signals are replaced, organization vehicle trajectory remains same as that lights. As a naturally strategy, roundabout has not received enough attention. A key motivation this study to theoretically compare performance signalized intersection (I-Signal), using FCFS policy (I-FCFS), typical major-minor priority pattern (R-MM), adopting (R-FCFS) under pure CAVs environment. Queueing theory applied derive theoretical formulas capacity average delay each strategy. M/G/1 model three while M/M/1/setup capture red-and-green light switch nature control. critical safety time gaps main variables assumed be generally distributed derivation. Analytically, I-Signal largest benefiting from ability separate conflict points groups, but some cases it will have higher delay. Among other R-FCFS highest least delay, indicating optimization based on setting worthy further study.

Industry 4.0 is a promising solution for the management of manufacturing processes, due to its potential to increase both energy saving and optimized production. Within this context, in this paper we propose the use of automated connected vehicles fleets for the autonomous handling of products among workstations in manufacturing processes. Numerical results confirm its effectiveness w.r.t a typ...

Recent advances in autonomous vehicle technology will open the door to highly efficient transportation systems in the future, as demonstrated by Autonomous Intersection Management, an intersection control protocol designed for fully autonomous vehicles. We, however, anticipate there will be a long transition period during which most vehicles have some but not all capabilities of fully autonomou...
متن کاملDetecting and Tracking Vehicles in a Roundabout
In the paper, a procedure for detecting and tracking vehicles in a roundabout is presented. The image subtraction technique is used, along with geometric and radiometric filters. The problems due to the camera motion and the vehicle images overlapping are discussed. The results of a test regarding a roundabout are presented, in a case with a negligible variation of the background radiometric ch...
